Grandmama’s Chicken and Dumplings

As a kid I loved spending time with my grandmama. My memories of her are of making forts and sneaking out to go swimming at the fitness center pool. She was loving and kind and gone far too early. We lost her to Lou Gehrig’s disease when I was in 3rd grade. The older I get the more I realize how young my mom was to lose her mom and I can’t imagine but I cherish the memories I did get to have with her. One of the very best things I remember that she cooked was chicken and dumplings. I have made them several times over the years and I am so grateful to have her recipe. I have tweaked it just a little bit, adding stuff to the broth when you boil the chicken to create a richer stock but overall the original recipe remains true. Her birthday was January 1st so while everyone is eating their black eyed peas and cabbage, I celebrate her by making her chicken and dumplings year after year. If you are looking for comfort and a meal that will feed a crowd, this one is it. Tag us in your pictures and let us know if you like it.

  1. I’ve never used biscuits as dumpling but will definitely give it a try; sounds much easier then mixing up my own dough. Alan had never eaten chicken & dumplings until we got married but is now one of his favorite meals.

  2. Rachel Sydney’s great grandmother was a great cook as well. She just used Biscuick in her 80’s to simplify the process. She just slid a wad off a teaspoon into the boiling broth and said is was as good. I never liked them so I could not votch for that but bet she was right. She never lost her tastebuds! Sorry about yours 😥 Get well Dahls
